ASIAN DEAF YOUTH LEADERSHIP CAMP OBJECTIVE(s): Designed for Asian deaf, hard of hearing and hearing adolescents and their siblings, ages 8 – 17, whose parents are deaf or hard of hearing. Participants will learn skills needed for leadership, teamwork, conflict resolution, problem solving, and mentoring. Through a Forum held at the Camp, they will brainstorm on ways to take on a more active leadership role in school, in the home, in their respective community, and in NADC.
BUDGET: $5,000 SHORT-TERM GOAL: Our goal is to have the Guidelines and Procedures for the Youth Leadership Camp completed in time for review during the Executive Board meeting next year. LONG-TERM GOAL: Participants will achieve a greater sense of positive self-identity, new friendships and network support, newly acquired skills in leadership and conflict resolution, an enhanced awareness and appreciation of being a role model and a responsible member within the Asian Deaf Community. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The NADC Youth Leadership Camp offers various social, cultural and educational programs that enable Asian deaf and hard of hearing youths to foster their senses of leadership, increase their self-esteem and develop a sense of cultural identity, awareness, or heritage. The Asian deaf and hard of hearing campers will enjoy hands-on experiences by enriching the knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of self-identities and Asian cultures. This program targets for those students who want to achieve their skills by demonstrating good citizenship, and becoming self-starter in their academic institution and the community.
