NADC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
OBJECTIVE: The mission of the Scholarship Program is to provide financial support for selected individuals to attend the 2010 NADC Conference.
LONG-TERM GOAL: To provide opportunities for highly qualified individuals who demonstrates financial need and potential to utilize the NADC Conference for personal growth and professional development on behalf of the Asian Deaf community.
TARGET DATE: January 31, 2010 Budget: $3,000
- Student Award (1) for $1,500
Includes flight, hotel, and conference registration
- Recipient Awards (3) for $500 each
Includes conference registration
CRITERIA FOR THE STUDENT AWARD:
- Full-time enrollment
- Asian Deaf
- Minimum GPA of 2.85
- Significant contribution of leadership and/or voluntary contributions to his/her community
- Non-affiliation with NADC and/or NADC Chapters
*top priority in considering applicants will be given to NADC non-members

***Included in the agenda for the NADC Executive Board at New York will be confirming the names of 3 Judges and the judging criteria. ***Judges should not only be from MADA to eliminate conflict of interest and should be regionally diverse, i.e., East coast, West coast
Footnote: A. Scholarship suggested Criteria:
- Essay – no more than 500 words given 3 topics which they can write an essay on:
a. What are some obstacles you have encountered as an Asian Deaf in the hearing community and how did you overcome these obstacles? b. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now given both your disability and your education? c. Who is your role model? How can you achieve and maintain the status of a role model role in society and the deaf culture? B. Scholarship Judging Criteria:
- 1 Chairperson; 3 Judges demographically diverse in order to eliminate the possibilities of favoritism or conflict of interest.
- There should be a “no-later-than” timeline established in which all received entries are postmarked prior to that deadline (no-later-than date).
- There should be a set criteria as follows:
a. Legibility of entry application (meaning, the essay must be written clearly) C. The essay should meet the college standard rule of ‘Essay Writing’ which includes:
- 500 word maximum; double spaced
- 1 inch margin all the way around (ATA) the left/right sides; top/bottom
- 5 primary portions of the essay (body):
a) Introduction (including the thesis statement within the introduction) b) 3 primary body paragraphs c) 1 Conclusion

D. Grammar and punctuation should be a critical criteria
E. This is the universal norm for all essays and thesis papers in high school and college. F. The content should be individually unique and not consumed with quotes from other resources. 1. All quotes should be referenced wherever a source is used and outlined on the reference page.
G. There should be a letter of recommendation or endorsement from their institution faculty member or clergy.
H. Scholarship Awards: - 1. Award:
a. The recipient of the scholarship(s) must sign a disclosure stating clearly that the money is not awarded by check or money, but the value of services, the perks awarded and paid by NADC.
